3 keys to Alex Hormozi's success

What happens when you attempt to transfer years of training and sales experience into an online course or learning modules?

For Alex Hormozi it was a breeze. But it was the years of practice that gave him powerful insight into how to do it at scale.

As I sat across from this man, confidence oozed out of him. It wasn’t always that way though. He had many ups and downs before getting to where he is today.

Nowadays, Alex is an entrepreneur and investor on a rocketship ascent. He specializes in acquisition and monetization. He is the author of the book $100M Offers: How To Make Offers So Good People Feel Stupid Saying No and is the founder of Acquisition.com. 

He became an expert at scaling after helping over a thousand fitness businesses to seven-figure turnovers. Alex then wrote his process into a licensing model that has scaled to over four thousand locations in four years.

The key to his success is that he did the work. He trained a sales team. He met with gym owners. Within the first month of working together, he helped them unlock new revenue. Often this was an immediate influx of cash – like $30k – not just potential contracts.

Early results like this are absolute tailwinds. Over time though, there are a couple of key practices you need if you want to scale.

First is the willingness to continue refining. I’m sure that the first sales training Alex did with a gym owner was nowhere near as effective as the one-thousandth training.

Second is the demonstration of relentless consistency and a giving mentality. Alex knew that he could transform gyms into better and more effective businesses if they implemented his model. He was driven by his belief that being a giver was going to take him further than being a taker.

And with each successive gym owner he served, he had more evidence that his model worked. As the gyms saw success, they began asking, “What else do you have?” Alex and his team would have missed out on a huge opportunity were they not ready for their upsell opportunity – a three-year digital licensing offer.

This became Gym Legacy, which today works in tandem with their program Gym Launch. A front end and back end. A scalable and repeatable program. They sold a continuity, a process, then they just added zeros.

That's all it was.

The cost of goods was significantly lower because it was simply licensing at that point – licensing materials, licensing ads, and licensing pages.

He has now founded and scaled three other companies to $120 million in cumulative sales across software, service, e-commerce, and brick-and-mortar industries.

Was Alex an overnight success? Hardly. He took his experience, tenacity, and expertise in overhauling gyms and turned it into a scalable business model.

But he credits his give-first mentality to how he got to where he is today. Now, he is teaching what he’s learned at a much larger scale thanks to his massive online audience.

His experience has helped unlock his future.
