How to Build a Multi-Million Dollar Newsletter
New podcast episode
Hi everyone,
This week’s note is a little meta…
That is, it’s a newsletter about newsletters but the story is probably not what you think. So what’s the big deal? First, is a $75,000,000 company exit in 5 years a big deal to you? If so, read on.
My next podcast guest is Tyler Denk, co-founder and CEO of beehiive, a SASS product for people who want to grow (and reach) audiences via a great newsletter. Quit monkeying with Mailchimp 🙈. You might constantly be wasting valuable time with Constant Contact. Don’t even try to convert me to ConvertKit.
Tyler’s Beehiive product has everything you need and in my humble opinion is the best on the block. The Beehiive team also just got $12.5 million in funding from Lightspeed Ventures and is pulling in impressive stats with Gross SaaS revenue up nearly $100k MoM and $300k MRR w/ $4M ARR sometime in mid-August.
You may not know Tyler Denk’s name yet, but you will. He looks like a pretty normal a 20-something kid who came from a middle class neighborhood in Maryland — now transplanted to Southern California. He’s hungry with ambition and got that look in his eyes like we’ve all had when we thought we had the world the palm of our hand.
He’s building what some might call a boring business. But the thing is, newsletters are only boring if you suck at writing them.
And there’s millions of dollars to be made from them with case studies like Alex Liberman and Austin Rief’s Morning Brew that sold for $75M where Tyler wrote most of the early code. There’s The Hustle which the Sam Parr sold for $25M to Hubspot and others. Tyler is self-made and he is anything but ordinary.
If you’re into music you might know him from his world famous Big Desk Energy playlist on Spotify. After Morning Brew, he did a season at Youtube Music, got Covid in 2020 and had to cancel a much needed vacation to San Diego. Stuck in his small apartment, he passed the time by building what might be the world’s most intuitive and effective SASS product for great writers who want to build an audience via an amazing newsletter.
If you know, you know. Enjoy this master class of newsletter marketing with Tyler Denk. You can listen on Spotify: https://bit.ly/podcastBTB , iTunes: apple.co/3OWJ0bj or wherever you get your podcasts.
